Emiliano Maggi (Rome 1977) lives and works in Rome.

The artist explores the constitution and disintegration of the self, producing sculptures that expand the range of figurative representation, and conjuring abstract regions beyond the realm of recognizability.

His work is centered on the human form, which in Maggi vision includes not only the body but the mind, the imagination, and the soul, not to mention the ways the material world is perceived and felt through these channels.

A world of fairy tales, horror and science-fiction movies, erotic literature and rural iconography, where portraying the human and animal bodies merge into numberless, genderless corporealities, resisting the performative power dynamics of figuration.

Each of his works arises from an ongoing intuitive relationship with the large array of techniques and material, from sculpture to performance, from painting to music and dance.

His work reveals a world-making ethos across its surfaces and in its details, where countless moments of invention and curiosity reflect ever-unfolding mysteries of consciousness.

Maggi recent works was focused on the evolution, the change, the transformation and destruction of the human body, not only naked in its nature but also in relation with the evolution of fashion and costume design in history.

The artist’s multi-faceted research has always succeeded in combining psychedelic scenarios to mythological symbolism, rituality and rural iconography made of fairy tales and dreams to the hypnotic scenes of homegrown 70‘s horror movies. All these elements are narrated by a polyhedric production that ranges from performance to jewellery production, from the praised musical project Estasy to pictorial and photographic works.
